Any activity which involves skeletal and muscle activity can be termed as exercise. Exercise is indeed very important for maintaining a good body and mind. Modern stay lifestyle gives us very little time and opportunities to engage in exercises which go in making the body more fit and also help in keeping the mind also active. Even then it becomes absolutely necessary to devote some time to exercise daily in order that we may stay healthy and fit.

While exercise is the best option, more often than not repetitive exercises become monotonous and boring and there have been many instances when people have quit on exercising because the mind is no longer able to take the monotony. To avoid such a situation it would be better if the same exercise was built with a sense of competition and excitement around it.

This can be possible by combining exercise and sports together. In other words a lot of deal of physical fitness can be achieved by playing some outdoor games which presents us with an opportunity to exercise our limbs, arms and almost every muscle and bone of the body. There can be many such exercise sports which are thrilling, fun and yet the same time highly invigorating and go a long way in providing wholesome activity to the body. A few of the exercise sports that come to mind are swimming, cycling, running and also less strenuous sports activities like a game of badminton, table tennis or even a game of tennis.

The best advantage of playing these games is that they build a sense of competition and excitement and therefore goad the participant to put that much more effort in trying to do the best. This results in greater exertion on part of the competitor which results in providing the best physical activity to the body without it becoming monotonous. To avoid boredom, sporting activity is the best way to achieve it and will help roping in more people. Exercise and sports are the most essential things in our life today. We just cannot ignore them.

The human body needs food, water and air to survive. The food that we eat provides the necessary nutrients to the body, water replenishes the lost water in the body, and air provides the necessary oxygen for the body to live. The heart pumps blood to all parts of the body, and all other organs of the body have specific roles to play and depend on this blood to function properly.

When a healthy child is born, all body functions are normal. As a child grows up, changes happen in the body. Some changes are positive, while other changes are not so positive, and some changes may even be harmful. The negative or harmful changes in the body happen due to what the person eats, drinks, or breathes. These changes affect all functions of the body, and the performance of the body can get reduced, very much like an automobile which is not properly maintained. This is where exercise plays an important role for the well-being of the body. Just as an automobile needs to be properly tuned, regularly serviced, with use of proper fuel, charged battery, etc, similarly the human body also needs proper care for it to function in a healthy and trouble-free manner.

It becomes necessary that all inputs to the body must not be contaminated and of the desired quality. The food must be free of toxic chemicals like pesticides, water must be clear and potable without contamination, and the air must be pure and clean. In addition to the contamination, the person’s lifestyle further creates adverse effects on the body. This is where exercise plays a critical role for the wellbeing of the body. Proper exercise, on a regular basis must form a regular habit to neutralize all the harmful effects on the body, and to maintain a healthy balance of the body, mind and spirit.

Is there anyone who considers themselves to be in perfect shape? Even bodybuilders with perfect physiques never seem to stop working on making improvements. We’re constantly bombarded with messages to eat right and exercise more (two very simple concepts that seem to fly over many people’s heads). With the New Year comes the resolution to get in better shape. This means joining a gym with the best intentions. Within three months those good intentions have gone right out the window. What’s the answer? Perhaps it is as simple as getting the right motivation.

Much of our political discourse is focused on how to fix our crumbling healthcare system. Even with sweeping legislation to provide coverage for all, we still need to get ourselves in shape. Preventative measures can go a long way towards reducing health care costs. Look no further than the rise in adult diabetes. Not only does the treatment of this disease put a strain on our healthcare system, but it is actually preventable with proper diet and exercise. What we need are fresh approaches to physical fitness and nutrition. Those approaches could be found with a new class of graduates who have dedicated themselves to whipping the rest of us into shape.

One way these new trainers and nutritionists can get educated is through earning online degrees specializing in those areas of fitness and healthy eating. It’s not enough to work out and read the labels on food boxes (although that’s important). To provide the proper motivation for healthier living, the trainers of tomorrow need to understand how food affects our bodies. The same can be said for the dieticians. If we’re supposed to eat better, somebody should come up with a tastier way of having Brussels sprouts! First learn, then motivate. That’s a plan we can all get behind.

Cruises are often viewed by people as a chance to get away from it all. People are able to get away from work, family and daily chores. While everyone is busy getting away from it all they tend to relax in the sun and have fun but they forget about one important thing, exercising. Many people become lax in their exercise routine while they are away on vacation. They use the excuses of the lack of exercise facilities and relaxation as reasons for not exercising but those days are long gone.

Cruise lines have started to cater to the needs of their passengers, and are referred to as fitness cruises. Many cruises have started to create a professionally stocked fitness centers where passengers are able to go. These workout rooms have state-of-the-art equipment, great fitness classes and wonderful views of the open seas, so there is no reason cruise passengers cannot get in their daily dosage of exercise. In fact, cruise workout rooms have even inspired those that don’t normally work out to consider taking up some fitness classes just for the beautiful views.

The exercise options don’t just end with the workout room on the cruise. Cruises tend to cater to those that are seeking fun and fitness. This means that they will provide many ways that you can work out when the ship docks. Some cruises have been known to offer swimming off the beautiful sandy beaches, ziplining, paragliding or even hiking along the native trails where you can see local plants and animals. The possibilities are endless and it’s a great way to get your exercise in and see the local culture.

Cruises no longer have to be unhealthy excursions. In fact, with the addition of state-of-the-art workout facilities and the hundreds of exciting exercise options available when the ship docks, one could almost think that all cruises were starting to turn into fitness cruises!

Many of us have gotten that fitness bug in our head and signed up for a two year gym membership, only to go about three times. That is definitely not the way to start an exercise program. Save that membership money and buy yourself a nice Chopard necklace, because the days of using the gym and other expensive fitness equipment are over! You can lose weight, stay at home (or somewhere close at least), and save money all at the same time.

There are so many ways that you can lose weight or get fit and also save money. First off, find things that you can do for free. Take a walk down the street or make sure you skip the elevator and use the stairs. There are a huge number of ways to get exercise without even knowing you’re doing it.

Next, do your research before buying any equipment. Treadmills, elliptical machines, and even weight sets can get expensive. So, before you buy anything, find the workout you want to do. Some really fun workouts don’t require any equipment whatsoever! One of my personal favorites is pilates because all you really need is a few resistance bands, a yoga mat, and possibly an exercise ball. Pretty cheap compared to a treadmill!

Last, you have to have healthy eating habits. If you’re burning off tons of calories, then turning around just to consume them again, you’re not going to get anywhere. Not only will eating fresh and healthy foods help you shed pounds, it also helps on your pocketbook. Find a healthy meal plan that you can stick to, and just do it! You may just be surprised how well it will work for you.

Again, don’t let yourself fall prey to pricey gyms, equipment, and other weight loss fads. Stick to good old diet and exercise and watch the weight disappear!

There are various reasons for participating and playing in sports events. Some of the players participate and compete so that they will be able to earn money and laurels. There are other people who play in sports events to try and corner the glory. This is the reason for all the people who play in various games to start their participation.

One of the most important benefits that come out of the participation in various sports events is the health that is maintained in these people. The training that the player has each day keeps the person to be fit. Most serious players cannot afford to avoid training even one day, unless they are very sick. As the person stops training, it becomes very difficult to regain the strength and stamina that is required to play again at the highest level. Many of the sports people try to train each and every day.

The training that the player indulges in causes the person to be mentally and physically fit. Physical fitness through the exercises like stretching and strengthening causes the muscles to start building up. As there is an increase in the muscle bulk, the metabolism increases and the fat is all lost from the body.

Every sportsperson may be at a risk of being affected by musculoskeletal problems that may be caused by the excessive training or even by lack of stretching before the routine exercises. Other than these musculoskeletal injuries, there are no diseases like cholesterol because the fat deposits in the body are all used up during the exercise and only muscle tissue is present in large quantity in the body. The player need not be an international player, but even a participant in a regional sports event will train hard to be able to excel in the sport, thus getting a healthy and fit body in the bargain.

Most people have completely drunk the Kool-Aid on the notion that you have to have some big, fancy gym in order to get yourself into better shape. While it certainly helps to be in a place full of pumped up pretty people, and to have all kinds of neat equipment at your disposal, these things can actually hinder you a little bit. After all, in a place where they consider every muscle group special enough to warrant a flock of its own machines (like anybody needs to do five different kinds of curls), it can be a little hard to imagine that your body is anything but a loose, unrelated collection of traps, gluts, abs, delts, and a bunch of other abbreviations.

However, you are a working, functional unit where every part serves a valuable purpose. In addition, this exercise, while bizarre, is a great way to build your strength and endurance. It’s called Car Catch, and it involves a place where a car has some room (at least 30 yards or so), a car in neutral, you and someone to control the car. It’s important to have someone inside the car for safety purposes. Do not be macho about this, or you could end up seriously hurt.

You start out behind the car, pushing it forward. Once you have gotten it up to some speed, you jog around to the front of the car and stop it. Then you begin to push in the opposite direction, repeating the process repeatedly until you run out of endurance. You would be well advised to start out with a smaller car and then graduate to something a bit bigger, like a lot of the new Chevrolet models. Those are some gorgeous American machines. They also have the added benefit that you can push them around, without looking like you’re pushing because the car is broken.

Unless you are a golfer or dart-thrower, if you play sports, you are prone to injury. Of course, some sports will leave you more prone than others, but there are some universal measures you can take to help prevent injury in any line of sports – even Cornhole.

The first thing you need to do is familiarize yourself with the physical demands and expectations of the sport you are playing. Research the types of injuries that are common to the sport and look at the measures some of the more trained and skilled athletes take in order to prevent injury. In cycling, for example, the most common types of injuries have to do with different leg and muscle fatigues, like IT Band Syndrome. It’s a common condition among cyclists, and can be alleviated by changing the saddle height or cleat position. Unless you have done your research, however, this won’t be so apparent.

Secondly, you need to stretch. Focus especially on those muscle groups which are expending the greatest amount of effort or receiving the greatest amount of stress. Pitchers and quarterbacks, for example, should stretch their shoulder and arm muscles to stay loose and limber and avoid muscle cramps. Runners should stretch their hamstrings and him flexors for the same reason.

If your sport calls for protective gear, like in Lacrosse, Football, Hockey, or Baseball, wear that protective gear. You may be out just messing around, but if the competition gets serious, then serious injuries will result if you’re not adequately protected. Sports like these involve a lot of physical contact and in addition to protective gear; you need a good wall of muscle behind the pads to help reduce the impacts on your body.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, you should never underestimate the preventative and recuperative power of rest. Overtraining and overexertion can lead to injury just as much as inactivity. Rest is just as important for sports training as exercise and practice, and it will help prevent physical and psychological injury.

Depending on the intensity of your sport or physical exercise, you are subjecting your body to varying levels of intensity; some sports injuries are just facts of the practice. Not everybody will suffer a sports-related injury in their exercise or sports career, but these injuries are common enough that, if you do suddenly feel a pain or a pull, the options for treatment and prevention are readily accessible.

When it comes time for your sports practice or workout, the most important thing is to pay attention to your warm-up and cool-down stages. During these stages you get an opportunity to get the blood flowing, loosen up the muscles, and prepare your body for exertion. It’s easier to accelerate and decelerate slowly, rather than hopping off the couch into a sprint and setting back down on the couch again when you’re done. Stretch, drink water, build strength, and learn a good routine. This is the best form of prevention.

However, some injuries can’t be avoided so easily. In running or jogging, for example, your ankles, knees, hips, and even back have to endure hours of abuse. Over time, the running can take its toll, especially on the knees. There is a condition called ‘Runners Knee’ in fact, which involves a breakdown of cartilage behind the kneecap, which can turn arthritic or immobile if unaddressed. The best way to avoid Runner’s Knee is to work-out and strengthen your quadriceps and doing some strength-training on your upper legs.

Another common injury in sports is Tennis Elbow. Like Runner’s Knee, the injury derives from conditions caused by the sport itself, which is good news and bad news. Good because other people have dealt with it, and bad because sometimes recovery means putting your practice on hold. Tennis Elbow is a type of tendonitis, and golfers, baseball players, and of course, tennis players suffer from it. Treatment usually involves changing your technique and taking the stress off the affected tendons.

While sports injuries are common, they’re not always avoidable. Pay attention to what your body is telling you. Exercise should never be painful.

Much like their senior counterparts who spend all day playing bingo, children today are spending too much time indoors playing games, rather than pursuing physical activities. With so many fun activities and sports to choose from, it’s surprising that so few of America’s youth are participating. Across the board, from basketball to tennis, ballet to tap, children’s activities have seen a dramatic drop in enrollment that cannot solely be a response to the bad economy. PlayStation game sales have not suffered, nor have their expensive game pieces and alternative systems like Wii. In fact, entertainment in the United States since the recession began has actually increased as an industry, perhaps due to the large numbers of people who need a means to escape their distressing situations.

Many sports, like karate, offer children the opportunity to socialize, thus gaining imperative social skills, and to gain agility and coordination, too. Children who are exposed to physical activity at a young age are less likely to face adult obesity, studies show, because habits instilled in youth are often kept through adolescence and adulthood. Karate, and other sports, teach children invaluable life lessons about respect, courage, confidence, and industry.

Other great sports activities for your child include things like ballet, which helps children to develop a greater sense of physical balance, as well as instilling children with a peaceful pace for exercise and relaxation. Baseball, an American classic, has lost its footing in the ranks as most popular, as other sports like soccer become more popular internationally and locally. Although bingo itself is not a great activity for children who need encouragement to become more physically active, volunteering in senior centers is a great way for kids to become more aware of others in their community who may need companionship and assistance.

Most endurance athletes cannot eat the same foods that sedentary people eat, and expect to maintain a high level of performance over a long number of years. Their nutritional needs are significantly different, and need to be addressed for maximum performance. For purposes of explanation, an endurance athlete is a person who maintains elevated breathing and heartbeat rates for a significant period of time, most often two hours or more.

There are many sports whose participants are endurance athletes, even if they do not realize such. Marathoners and triathletes are obvious examples, but have you ever considered that a backpacking hiker, carrying a heavy load over many miles for extended periods of time, also qualifies? Folks who walk across a country, or row a boat across an ocean, or swim the English Channel, or engage in any prolonged activity which involves little in the way of rest, are all in the same group. Mountain bikers, trail runners, rock climbers, and even backcountry skiers, all need a special dietary intake to replace nutrients lost during prolonged sweating and exertion.

Replacing essential nutrients is the pivotal step necessary to both maintaining one’s performance level over a long period of time, and recovering as quickly as possible after prolonged exertion. This raises the question, ‘What are essential nutrients for endurance athletes?’ The answer is straightforward – the primary electrolytes, plus protein, the antioxidant vitamin E, zinc, and the B vitamins.

Most simply, the major electrolytes are calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, and chloride. Supplements can provide the daily recommended amounts, which are challenging to derive from foods alone. Zinc and the B vitamins both help with the conversion of food into usable energy, while vitamin E has been shown to reduce cellular damage caused by strenuous exercise.

Introducing these nutrients into one’s diet via supplement form, combined with a varied diet, can aid physical performance during exercise. This process can also cut one’s ‘sore muscle’ phase after a lengthy workout or race, shortening the time required before another workout can begin. For any aspiring or practicing endurance athlete, addressing nutritional intake is a key step to improving performance.

Participation in group sports is not just for children. Adults can reap numerous benefits from participating in a variety of adult leagues. Some individuals that that seek to live an active lifestyle prefer to spend that time outside with other individuals and not tucked away in a gym. Participation in group sports gives people the option of enjoying great exercise, fresh air and the camaraderie of playing with a team.

Common Types of Adult Sports Leagues

Adult leagues often mirror the ones available to children. Common leagues include baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, racquetball, flag football, and soccer. Most leagues will offer co-ed sports as well. Participants will usually have to sign a release that absolves the league of any liability and pay a nominal fee that usually goes towards jerseys.

Benefits for Adults

There is no question that group sporting activities are great for children, but adults that participate are sure to reap numerous physical and health benefits as well. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends that adults under the age of 65 to engage in moderately intense cardiovascular exercise 30 minutes a day, five days a week or alternatively 20 minutes of vigorously intense cardiovascular exercise three days a week.

Individuals that maintain this level of activity can look forward to increased mental health- regular exercise assists with increasing concentration, the ability to memorize and even keeps your brain healthy into old age. The physical benefits of sports activities include lowering blood pressure, increasing cardiovascular health, and weight loss. Sports are also an excellent way to relieve stress, which is associated with a host of ailments. Since group sports can be taxing it is important to consult with your doctor before you sign up for any new activities to make sure it is safe for your to participate.
