Your local triathlon won’t be easy, and it will be nearly impossible if you haven’t found yourself the proper swim training. There is nothing more daunting to a first-time participant than a triathlon swim. There are dozens of people in front of you and behind you. You have to know a few tips before you even attempt to swim in a real race, so here they are.

The Commotion

Yes, this is the moment the whistle blows, and 50 people go from treading water to being completely horizontal and swimming furiously. If you are not a strong swimmer, you should stay near the back so you can allow those who are stronger to get out in the lead first. Do not be swayed by the furious nature of their speed; you have to go at your own pace.

The Emergency

Many swimmers worry that they will drown in the water, but this is never going to happen. Even if you find yourself in trouble, most tri’s have life boats out there for you to swim to. You can hang out on them for as long as you want and swim to the next one if that’s easiest for you. Just like online casino bonuses, there are only good things that can happen. You will never be hurt in the water.

The Training

You must train in open water. Your local pool can help you perfect your form, but nothing prepares you for the race day. Unless you are willing to get out in the open water, you will be in for a very long race day.

Encouraging Children In Sports ? Having Fun Must Be The First Goal

Ready to March

Should you encourage your child to participate in sports without knowing whether he or she has the talent to make it big? Competition for the sake of competition is the best thing. Trying to compete with others so that you can enjoy a better material benefits in life is not a smart approach.

Even if one succeeds, one realizes that filling life with material joys is not going to make a satisfying experience. On the other hand, a couple of kids running a race on a small street will probably have more fun than those trailing for the Olympics. When your child expresses an interest to play a sport, it is your duty to encourage him or her. It may involve slight distraction from studies and academic pursuits for a year or two.

However, there is no denying that a child participating in a team sport will learn numerous things about individual efforts and group participation. From having a sportsman spirit to accepting failure-the sport will teach a lot of things to the individual. Of course, whether the child goes further to make a career in the sport or not is a matter of chance. It is not necessary for the best player to be selected on the team at all times.

Rather than complicating matters, it makes sense to keep it simple and play the sport as it is. If you feel that your child has talent, you can take a calculated risk and encourage him or her to continue. If the child does not show any signs of brilliance, you can console yourself knowing that it has been a learning experience.

Does Poker Qualify as a Sport?

LAS VEGAS - JUNE 17: Monteal Canadiens winger...

People compete against each other for millions of dollars in events that are televised live on the sports networks, but that does make poker a sport? It does take incredible stamina and concentration to play Texas Hold-em for hours on end over several days, just as they do in the World Series of Poker. But, I still would not call the players athletes. Have you seen some of them?

Doyle Brunson, the dean of the poker world, looks like he is about 150 years old and Chris Ferguson, who is nicknamed “Jesus,” does not appear to be very athletic at all with his long hair and beard. While they may not be athletes, they are very smart and have nerves of steel. They are also fierce competitors. There are a number of things that great athletes and great poker players have in common.

To excel at poker you must know your competition. The players look for what they call “tells,” which will help them interpret how good of a hand their opponent has. It could be how much they bet, how they hold their cards, or what they say. As the old saying goes, “You’ve gotta know when to hold-em and know when to fold-em,” and knowing the other players “tells” can help you make the right call.

Poker is a great game to play at home with a group of friends. Even if you only put up a couple of bucks, it is fun to try and guess what the other players have, and try to bluff your way through. It does not take much to organize a poker night, just stock up on drinks and snacks and call your buddies over. If you really want to impress them, buy some poker tables, like the ones used on television, and make your game look very official.

Pet Toting Celebs the New Hollywood Trend?

It rare these days to not see some picture or post about a celebrity and their pet online at least once per week. Celeb pet owners run the entire spectrum of personalities and characters. Some are seen often with their four footed friends include well-know socialite Paris Hilton, singers LeAnn Rimes and Mariah Carey as well as actors Orlando Bloom and Matthew McConaughey.

These celebs love their pets so much they no doubt take the step of getting pet insurance. It’s not that they can’t afford the veterinary expenses, they just want to make sure their furry babies are taken care of. Pet insurance is definitely worth being considered by any pet owner who can afford the premiums. It is comforting to know that expenses will be covered should your pet become seriously ill.

It is no longer just the female celebrities in Hollywood who are proudly showing off their four-footed friends while out shopping, walking or even flying. Some of Hollywood’s most recognizable male hotties are getting in on the action. It is common to see heartthrob Justin Timberlake hitting the pavement with his four footed pals. Other celebrities commonly spotted with animals close by include Kelly Osbourne singer Britney Spears, who has admitted to spoiling her pets rotten.

Some celebs actually color co-ordinate their outfits depending on what bag they are carrying their tiny dogs in. Celebrities have made owning tiny dogs into a big fad. It is a common sight to see many of Tinsel Town’s top young actresses carrying their Shih Tzus, Chihuahuas and Pomeranians around town.
The frequency of sightings of celebrities and their pets shows that this is definitely a hot trend in Hollywood. Considering the number of pet-owning celebs, this doesn’t seem like a trend that will be ending anytime soon.

Let’s Get Started!

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - FEBRUARY 04: Clients work...

Many of us have gotten that fitness bug in our head and signed up for a two year gym membership, only to go about three times. That is definitely not the way to start an exercise program. Save that membership money and buy yourself a nice Chopard necklace, because the days of using the gym and other expensive fitness equipment are over! You can lose weight, stay at home (or somewhere close at least), and save money all at the same time.

There are so many ways that you can lose weight or get fit and also save money. First off, find things that you can do for free. Take a walk down the street or make sure you skip the elevator and use the stairs. There are a huge number of ways to get exercise without even knowing you’re doing it.

Next, do your research before buying any equipment. Treadmills, elliptical machines, and even weight sets can get expensive. So, before you buy anything, find the workout you want to do. Some really fun workouts don’t require any equipment whatsoever! One of my personal favorites is pilates because all you really need is a few resistance bands, a yoga mat, and possibly an exercise ball. Pretty cheap compared to a treadmill!

Last, you have to have healthy eating habits. If you’re burning off tons of calories, then turning around just to consume them again, you’re not going to get anywhere. Not only will eating fresh and healthy foods help you shed pounds, it also helps on your pocketbook. Find a healthy meal plan that you can stick to, and just do it! You may just be surprised how well it will work for you.

Again, don’t let yourself fall prey to pricey gyms, equipment, and other weight loss fads. Stick to good old diet and exercise and watch the weight disappear!

Using a Prepaid Credit Card Can Help You Avoid Identity Theft

Unfortunately, identity theft is a growing problem, and people who have been victims of this crime can tell you that trying to repair your credit, restore your finances, and basically start all over from scratch can be overwhelmingly stressful.

Identity theft can happen in many ways. That person standing in line behind you at the ATM may have been able to jot down your credit card and pin numbers. Your wallet may have been stolen while you were shopping.  Your information can be “fished” through dishonest websites.  That check you may have dropped in the mail to pay your utility bill may not have even made it to the post office. Or, if it made it that far, it didn’t get any further because someone chose to help him or herself to it. Now, your bank account number as well as personal information (name, address, and phone number) are all compromised.

There are ways to diminish or avoid identity theft, however. These include the basic ones such as protecting your debit PIN number, keeping your wallet secure at all times, and using money orders or auto-pay features so you don’t have to use checks. Now you can add one other way to that list—using a prepaid credit card.

When you use a prepaid credit card, you know that you will only be using it for a short time, and there is nothing on it to connect it back to any of your bank accounts or current credit or debit cards. And because it is a temporary card, you can even change the way you list your name on it. You can use your first and middle initials along with your last name or your middle name only—just about anything, as long as it matches something on your photo identification in case you are asked to show it when you use the card.

Fencing, the Controversial Sword Sport

Pictograms of Olympic sports - Fencing. This i...
Image via Wikipedia
There exist those period parodies of gloved gentlemen with riding boots, flint-pieces, and gold pieces honoring their aristocratic duty to dance and bicker in only the most eloquent way-  with swords rather than fists. In these parodies, there is the mimicry of a certain swordsman’s form, almost like the stance of a martial arts student. In many ways, the European sport of Fencing is like the martial arts of the east, though they’re less about honor and more about display and skill.

Fencing is routinely a sport reserved for the rich. Some assume this is because the lower-class or pragmatic critique of the sport is that it has no use or purpose. However, if fencing doesn’t serve a purpose, what sport does? The purpose of all sport is the same; to serve as both a spectacle and an occupation. There is nothing quite as thrilling as watching the heft and thrust of an Épée at the opponent.

Because the sport of Fencing has such a diverse and long-reaching history, the plebian looking to make his or her way into the ranks of the fencing elite has a lot to learn. Not only is there Olympic Fencing (the kind most people are familiar with), but there are Foil, Épée, and Saber matches as well. These are all scored differently, and have different sets of hits, points, and rules that must be observed. Only the highest-class high-schools and colleges still teach the sport, which is how its highbrow status continues to be maintained.

Aside from the sword necessary for fencing, there is a list of protective gear that the fencer must employ before the duel. The swords are sharp, so the fencer has to be wearing a protective jacket, plastron, gloves, mask, and an equally as puncture-proof set of breeches. Accidents do happen in fencing, but that’s to be expected in a sport which revolves itself around the point of a sword.

The Sports of Scotland

With its luscious green hills, its temperate climate, and its sequestered attitude, Scotland is the perfect breeding-ground for true sportsmanship and competition. Though many of the sports native to Scotland have an acutely Scottish hue, many of them have been adopted worldwide as legitimate sporting pursuits. When it comes to many of these sports, like Rugby, Golf, and Football (Soccer), Scotland is king.

Golf historically has its roots on the island of Scotland, with its first officially recognized course located at Leith Links, where people have been golfing since the mid 1400s. The rules of golf have changed over the centuries, but the basic look and feel of the game are still fully intact. Many people will say, in fact, that you haven’t golfed until you’ve golfed in Scotland. It’s no sunny Miami golf-course, but in Scotland you get the real thing, and not a plastic imitation.

Then, of course, you have Rugby in Scotland. The sport of Men (and the occasional group of women). Watching a Rugby match in Scotland puts American Football to shame. There are no pads, helmets or visors. It truly is a free-for-all and though the rules are confusing to foreigners, it is always thrilling to watch. The game is violent, fast-paced, end employs a mixture of hands, feet, and outright tackles. Not for the faint of heart or the frail of body.

The other sport dominating Scotland is football (or what Americans call soccer, which is really just a colloquial way of saying (football association). With the world cup craze recently ended and put to rest for the next four years, it will give Scotland ample time to prepare to dominate the next world competition, though in the meanwhile Scotland’s football players keep busy with their own leagues and drawing in stadiums full of screaming fans.

The Scottish take their sports seriously. You wouldn’t ever want to get between a rugby player and the game ball.

Types of Casino Poker Games

Poker Hands
Image via Wikipedia

You can’t do martial arts 24/7. When you’re ready for a change of pace, you can enjoy a wide variety of online casino games. There are games for every type of player. Among the more popular games are the poker games. These games come in a variety of styles, and they each have their own distinct draw and feel. These games can vary by style, number of players, and even betting limits that are allowed per table.

The most popular style of online casino poker game is Texas Hold ‘Em. This style has different ante limits depending on if the game is free, low roller, or a high roller table. The game is centered around the concept of giving two cards to a player and the dealer showing five cards. The two cards given to the player remain a mystery until the end of the hand when the last players expose their cards and the highest holding hand wins the pot. The pot is built by the players just as in other poker games.

The other style of poker game is video poker. There are no other players and no dealer in this style of casino poker. Gamers are shown a poker hand. They can choose, by pointing and clicking the mouse, to keep a certain number of cards and discard the others. They are then given cards to replace the discarded cards. At this point, the game calculates the hand and awards a certain amount of winnings, depending on the rank of the winning card hand.

The final style of poker game is the Caribbean Stud. This type of game is played the same way that any other poker game is played. The difference is that the gamer is playing against the dealer, or the house, and no other players. These three games are the main types that are offered by online casinos.

Sports Teams Are in Need of Emergency Cash

It appears that professional sports teams are no longer having trouble getting people out of the stadium but rather getting them in the stadium at all. Professional sports teams are having attendance issues all across the board. So how can fans who still claim to be die hard for their sport and their team not be showing up to the games?

The answer comes in a variety of reasons. The first is just that people are living in a tough time economically. There are so many people out of work that they are dipping into their emergency cash for the first time in their lives. It’s simply not a good time for people to be spending what little money they have at a sporting event. Even those that have jobs are feeling the effects of the economy as it is creating an atmosphere of uncertainty, prompting people to hold onto their cash while preparing for the worst.

The rising price of admissions to get into games are making even the fans with a stable and secure income hesitant to show up. There is a big price on every part of the game these days, from parking to the ticket to the concessions and souvenirs, so people are having to think twice about coming out to a game.

The other problem is one of the exposure these sports are getting through cable and satellite television. People can watch the game from the privacy and comfort of their own homes, and with the recent boom in high quality home theatre systems there is less reason to travel. Even going to see a rival player is no longer as appealing as so many games are televised nationally and highlights are constantly being fed into the mainstream. It seems unlikely people will be filing into the stadiums any time soon.
