Taekwondo is one of the most popular martial arts, and one of the best for children to learn. The art itself relies on kicks and punches, but the sport offers so much more to children, especially in their early development. The physical advantages are self-evident. Taekwondo provides physical fitness to children through stretching, sparring, and repetitive practice. Most exercises are not combat-intensive, but rely on mastering kicks and punches while developing correct form and gaining strength. The physical achievements become almost secondary to what taekwondo does for participants both mentally and psychologically.

The art focuses on specific ideals and tenets when teaching its students. Taekwondo teaches discipline and self-restraint. Students learn to defend themselves; not to fight other children. Taking ownership of one’s self and of one’s actions is a large focus of any martial art, but especially taekwondo. Taekwondo instills self-control, self-confidence, and self-respect in its students.

The world is always changing, and new dangers present themselves every day. Children have access to more information than ever before. Children deal with increasingly mature concepts and content thanks to the internet and television. Learning a martial art like taekwondo can give them the mental and physical abilities to handle the world more positively and responsibly. By having stronger self-esteem and self-worth, children are better prepared to handle pressure. Taekwondo teaches respect, integrity, and perseverance.

Sometimes parents may overlook martial arts as a positive sport for their children. This could stem from misconceptions over the violent nature of martial arts, or a fear of their child’s safety. With a little research, however, parents can find the advantages of martial arts over traditional sports. As children grow, potential politics or genetic differences start separating children from larger team sports. Children can continue taekwondo regardless of external factors, as the only person the children compete with are themselves. The self-confidence and self-discipline taekwondo teaches lasts far beyond the end of a child’s martial arts activities. The values stay with children throughout the rest of their life.

In 1920, representatives from several professional football teams met in an automobile showroom in Canton, OH. The agreement reached at that session was that the teams play a common schedule and crown a champion at the end of each season. They called the league the American Professional Football Conference.

The initiation fee was set at $100. (Though, George Halas, one of the founders, remarked that he doubted that there was $100 in that showroom!).

The original teams were:

• Akron Pros
• Buffalo All-Americans
• Canton Bulldogs
• Chicago Cardinals
• Chicago Tigers
• Cleveland Indians
• Columbus Panhandles
• Dayton Triangles
• Decatur Staleys (Chicago Bears)
• Detroit Heralds
• Hammond Pros
• Muncie Flyers
• Rochester Jeffersons
• Rock Island Independents

Only two charter member teams are still in the league. The Chicago Bears (the team owned by the aforementioned George Halas and the Arizona Cardinals (formerly the Chicago Cardinals).

In 1922, the league renamed itself the National Football League. Throughout the 1920s, the league membership was erratic but eventually expanded to 25 teams.
Star Players

College football was still the predominant attraction among football fans. However, that began to change when notable college players turned professional. Red Grange (The Galloping Ghost) was one the most famous college stars to do so when he joined the Chicago Bears. He also went on a barnstorming tour in 1925 further increasing the game’s reach among sports fans.
Championships

Initially, league champions were awarded to whichever team had the best won and lost record. However, at the end of the 1932 season, the Chicago Bears and the Portsmouth Spartans both finished the season tied. In order to name a champion, the league voted to hold the first NFL playoff game ever. The weather was so cold that the game was held at the indoor Chicago Stadium where the Chicago Bears won by a score of 9-0.

That is the beginning of what would become the Super Bowl

Prior to the Civil War, baseball was already being played. And as with many sports, baseball began as an amateur endeavor.

The New York Knickerbockers

Baseball and variations of it had been played in America as early as 1791. The game slowly picked up momentum, especially in the New York area.

In 1845, the New York Knickerbockers were formed by the upper middle class New York as a social club. An amateur club led by Alexander Cartwright, the team actually laid out the basic rules for playing the game. Among them were the force and tagging players (as opposed to plunking the runner with the ball to get an out).

The National Association of Base Ball Players

In 1857, several baseball teams around the New York area formed the National Association of Base Ball Players (NABBP). This organization oversaw the game and established a championship. The Civil War aided the growth of the sport resulting in over 400 teams in the NABBP by the 1867.

Playing together during the Civil War had the effect of not only spreading the game throughout the country, but in helping establish uniform rules for it. In 1869, the NABBP allowed professional teams, the first of which was the Cincinnati Red Stockings. Eventually twelve teams declared themselves professional.

The Major Leagues

Between 1869 and 1901, what became the National and the later, the American League were formed. Both of these leagues considered themselves major because their teams came from the major markets (New York, Chicago, etc.). Other leagues formed but eventually folded or turned into what would become “minor league teams.”

Infighting for players between teams in all of the leagues resulted in a national agreement that did the following:

• Ended cross-league raids on players
• Started the World Series
• Ensured that the major leagues dominated the independent leagues

The Benefits of Bonds and Bond Analysis

When companies or governments are in need of financing for operations, or to back certain projects, they can issue bonds to help cover the costs. These securities present an attractive opportunity for investors to generate a steady additional source of income. Available in concrete terms, bonds can reliably balance risk and reward, and won’t fall victim to the detrimental fluctuations of stocks. Thus, the benefits are plentiful.

You need to understand how bonds works so that you can cash in on this valuable resource. Imagine being able to afford things like sports tickets, sport equipment, or just helping your child fulfill a sports related dream.

Yes, Everyone hates paying taxes, especially when it’s on rightfully earned money. We would rather use our money for things we enjoy such as sports. Many municipal bonds are an exception, as the interest generated on them is usually exempt from both federal and state income taxes. Issued by the U.S. Treasury, state and other government agencies for public works, they can be a safe, predictable investment. For those in the higher spectrum of tax brackets, they are an ideal benefit to generating higher after-tax returns.

Bonds present a complimentary stability when compared to the volatility of stocks. When stocks take the occasional plunge, bonds can amply cover the resulting losses. This makes them an attractive accessory to diversifying a portfolio.

Their stability is also an affirmation of their security, especially when it comes to municipal bonds from the U.S. Treasury, which are extremely safe and liquid investments well suited for large, future financial purchases or needs. And lastly, but importantly, as briefly mentioned because the interest payments are obligated to come in at regular intervals, bonds are an excellent source for a consistent stream of income.

Furthermore, if you don’t know the benefits of your personal bonds, a bond analysis is an essential component of properly managing a bond portfolio and is an easy way to see exactly how your bonds are benefiting you. Knowledge of complex mathematics and ratings are necessary to generate an accurate bond analysis on your own, so it is a smart move to delegate this task to a professional.
